Despite 25 points from guard Shayla Bennett, the UNC women’s basketball team went on the road and ended up on the wrong end of a 91-78 scoreline on Thursday night against the Pitt Panthers.

In addition to Bennett’s season-high scoring performance, the Tar Heels (15-11, 6-6 ACC) also got 18 points and 10 rebounds from sophomore forward Janelle Bailey.

Taylor Koenen added 14 points, while Stephanie Watts chipped in 12 of her own to give head coach Sylvia Hatchell four players in double figures.

Still, though, it was the first ACC win in 12 tries this season for Pitt (10-16, 1-11 ACC), which received a combined 49 points from seniors Danielle Garven and Cassidy Walsh.

The Panthers used an 11-for-19 performance from behind the three-point line to pull off the upset, as UNC converted on just seven of its 31 tries from long distance in an attempt to keep up.

Pitt hit five of those three-pointers in the game’s first eight minutes, as they led for essentially the entire game on the way to the win.
