Led by a career-high 33 points from junior guard Paris Kea, the UNC women’s basketball picked up its seventh straight win on Sunday–defeating the Washington Huskies 90-78 at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center.

Kea’s efforts also helped give UNC head coach Sylvia Hatchell career victory number 999.

Senior guard Jamie Cherry supplemented Kea’s 33 points with 28 of her own, while freshman forward Janelle Bailey added 19 points.

The high-scoring trio combined for 80 of UNC’s 90 points and converted on a whopping 29 of their 40 shots from the field against Washington (5-5).

Despite trailing midway through the second quarter, the Tar Heels (9-2) proved they have an offense capable of making wins look easier than they really are.

UNC shot 58 percent for the game, including a 7-for-14 effort from three-point range. By halftime, the Tar Heels had jumped out to an eight-point lead–and would go on to extend the margin up to 20 points in the fourth quarter.

Now the program is in the middle of its longest winning streak since the 2014-15 team won nine straight, and its head coach is on the verge of a historic milestone.

Up Next:

Hatchell will go for win No. 1000 on Tuesday in Myrtle Beach, when the Tar Heels face Grambling at 2 p.m. That same day, UCONN women’s head coach Geno Auriemma will also be going for his 1000th career win.
