Down 3-2 on Saturday in Rome, Georgia, the No. 3 seed UNC men’s tennis team rallied to win the final two singles matches of the day against No. 2 seed Wake Forest–pulling off a 4-3 victory in the ACC Championship semifinals.

Rinky Hijikata (5-7, 6-3, 7-6) and Josh Peck (4-6, 6-2, 7-6) each won in three sets–using third-set tiebreakers–to punch UNC a ticket to Sunday’s finals.

The Tar Heels had previously won the doubles point to go up 1-0 and received a singles victory from Benjamin Sigouin–who was set to enter a third set before ultimately winning by default when Wake Forest’s Eduardo Nava could not continue.

UNC also won despite missing top player William Blumberg due to an ankle injury.

The Tar Heels are now 19-2 this season entering Sunday’s ACC title match against No. 1 seed Virginia at 2 p.m.
