Sunday’s ACC Men’s Tennis Championship match saw the top-seeded Virginia Cavaliers come from behind to top No. 3 seed UNC by a score of 4-3.
The Tar Heels (19-3) won the doubles point to take the early lead, then went ahead 2-0 after a singles victory by Brian Cernoch (6-2, 6-0).
Virginia won each of the next two matches to tie the team score, before the Tar Heels went back ahead with a win by Josh Peck (6-1, 6-3) on Court Three.
The Cavaliers hung tough, however, and won each of the last two matches to clinch the league title–on a day where UNC’s top player, William Blumberg, was limited to just doubles competition with an ankle injury.
This was UNC’s first ACC Championship final match since 2018.
