Despite getting just five hits on Tuesday afternoon at Boshamer Stadium, the third-ranked UNC baseball team was able to avoid an upset victory against Charleston Southern–as a bases-loaded walk by Brandon Martorano gave the Tar Heels a 7-6 win.

UNC (12-1) led 6-3 through four innings, but Charleston Southern (4-10) rallied to tie things up with one run in the fifth inning and two more in the eighth.

Martorano’s game-winning walk was the 11th of the game for the Tar Heels, which more than doubled their hit output.

Freshman Austin Love was credited with the win on the mound for UNC after throwing the last 1.2 innings of the game without allowing a run–improving his season record to 4-0.

This was the third time this season the Tar Heels have won a game in which the other team had more hits. Charleston Southern had 10.
