The No. 2 ranked UNC men’s tennis team improved to 3-0 to start the season on Sunday in Chapel Hill after squeaking by the unranked Virginia Tech Hokies for a 4-3 victory.

UNC won the doubles point and the first three singles matches to clinch the team win, but the Hokies (0-1) won each of the last three singles matches to make the final score as close as it was.

The Tar Heels got singles victories from William Blumberg (6-2, 6-1), Brian Cernoch (6-2, 6-3) and Simon Soendergaard (6-1, 6-4).

Up Next:

UNC will have a short break before returning to action in the ITA National Indoor Tournament in Champaign, Illinois. The tournament will begin on Feb. 12.
