The No. 3 seed UNC men’s tennis team held on for a 4-2 victory over No. 6 seed Virginia Tech on Friday night in Rome, Georgia, advancing to the semifinals of the ACC Championships.
Freshman Logan Zapp clinched the team win for the Tar Heels after winning in three sets (6-3, 5-7, 6-4) over the Hokies’ Hugo Maia.
The Tar Heels began the match by winning the doubles point, but split the first four singles matches with Virginia Tech–meaning either Zapp or Simon Soendergaard had to win for UNC to advance.
Brian Cernoch (6-1, 6-4) and Josh Peck (6-2, 5-7, 6-1) also won their singles matches for the Tar Heels.
UNC improved to 18-2 overall this season with the victory.
