Taking on Northwestern Sunday afternoon in Chapel Hill, the 2nd-ranked UNC men’s tennis team rolled to a 4-0 victory in what was the dual match season opener for both schools.
The Tar Heels won the doubles point to begin the match–which was part of the annual ITA Kickoff Weekend–then reeled off three consecutive singles victories from William Blumberg (6-3, 6-2), Brian Cernoch (6-2, 6-3) and Josh Peck (6-4, 6-4) to clinch the team win.
As a result, UNC advances to face South Carolina on Monday with a berth in the ITA National Indoor Tournament on the line.
Monday’s match between the Tar Heels and Gamecocks is set to begin at 2 p.m.
