Just over a week after being suspended for conduct detrimental to the team, UNC sophomore closer Josh Hiatt is back with the Tar Heels and is available to pitch as soon as Tuesday night’s game against Richmond.
Hiatt was a Preseason All-American prior to this year, coming off a breakout campaign as a freshman where he led UNC with 13 saves while posting a 1.90 ERA across 52 innings out of the bullpen.
So far in 2018, he’s recorded a team-high three saves to go along with a 2.67 ERA.
Although he was the workhorse in relief last season for the Tar Heels, that role has shifted over to senior Brett Daniels–who leads the team with 27 pitching appearances compared to just 17 for Hiatt.
With UNC having posted wins in 25 of its past 31 games, the way head coach Mike Fox re-integrates Hiatt into the team will certainly be something to watch as the regular season comes to a close over the next few weeks.
