North Carolina’s Javonte Williams (25) scores on a three-day run in the second quarter to give the Tar Heels a 28-3 lead in the second quarter against Western Carolina on Saturday, December 5, 2020 at Kenan Stadium in Chapel Hill, N.C.

UNC’s superstar running back tandem of junior Javonte Williams and senior Michael Carter were each named First Team All-Americans on Monday by Pro Football Focus.

Williams ran for 1,140 yards and 19 touchdowns this season, while also catching 25 passes for 305 yards and three more scores–setting a new UNC single-season record with 22 total touchdowns.

The powerful back also set a new Pro Football Focus record with a 95.9 rushing grade and his broken tackles per rushing attempt mark of 0.48 was the highest by any FBS running back since 2014.

Carter, meanwhile, led the Tar Heels with 1,245 rushing yards while also running for nine touchdowns of his own. In the passing game, the dual-threat back also caught 25 passes for 267 yards and two scores.

His 308 rushing yards in UNC’s win over Miami were the second-most ever recorded by a Tar Heel in a single game.

Williams and Carter also rank first and second in the FBS this season in percentage of runs resulting in 10 yards or more, at 26.8 and 26.1 percent respectively.

By the numbers, the duo ranks as one of the top backfields in college football history–even setting the record for most combined rushing yards in a single game by teammates with 544.
