After going winless over its last two games, the fifth-ranked UNC men’s soccer team got back to business on Tuesday night at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary–using a hat trick from Jack Skahan to defeat the visiting Winthrop Eagles 4-0.

Skahan scored his first goal just over 10 minutes into the match, a tally which would hold up as the only score in the entire first half.

From there, Giovanni Montesdeoca made it 2-0 for the Tar Heels with a goal just minutes into the second half before Skahan ultimately added two more of his own.

All three of UNC’s second-half goals came between the 50th and 58th minutes.

The Tar Heels (10-2-1) finished with a season-high 22 shots in the match, with 10 of those being on target.

Winthrop (3-9), on the other hand, managed only two shots of its own.

For UNC goalie James Pyle, it was his seventh shutout performance of the season.
