Following a vote by the league’s seven head coaches, it was announced Wednesday that the two-time defending national champion UNC field hockey team was once again picked to win the ACC in 2020.

The Tar Heels have gone undefeated in each of the last two seasons, and enter this strange season riding a 46-game winning streak–the longest in the history of the conference.

In addition, junior forward Erin Matson and senior midfielder Eva Smolenaars gave UNC a pair of representatives on the Preseason All-ACC team.

Virginia–which was picked to finish second in the league–led all teams with three players named to the All-ACC roster.

Behind the Tar Heels and Cavaliers in the preseason poll were: No. 3 Boston College, No. 4 Duke, No. 5 Louisville, No. 6 Syracuse and No. 7 Wake Forest.

Each ACC team will play a six-game conference schedule, as well as additional games against conference opponents that will count as non-conference games in the standings.

This year’s ACC Tournament will take place at Duke from Nov. 5-8.

UNC opens the season on Sept. 20 in Winston-Salem against Wake Forest.
