It took just over two minutes for Catherine Hayden to open the scoring for the top-ranked UNC field hockey team on Sunday against Ball State, and from there the Tar Heels never looked back on the way to an impressive 9-0 victory in Chapel Hill.

The non-conference win moves UNC to 11-0 so far this season, with this being the team’s seventh shutout over that span.

Hayden finished the game with two goals, while seven other Tar Heels chipped in one apiece on a day where head coach Karen Shelton was able to give 24 different players some time on the field.

In total, UNC finished with 29 shots compared to just two for Ball State (1-9)–none of which were on goal.

“I’m very pleased with today’s game and the weekend,” UNC head coach Karen Shelton said. “It’s good to play games back-to-back, it’s a good test for our kids. To get the win yesterday and only give up a goal and then to play today with such a lopsided score is a good testament to the team since we played so many people. We got off to a quick start and then could open up the bench. I was proud of the way we were able to control the tempo.”
