The UNC football program announced Sunday that Furman kicker Grayson Atkins–an FCS All-American in each of the last two seasons–is transferring into the program to complete his final year of collegiate eligibility.
As a graduate transferer, Atkins will be eligible to play in the upcoming 2020 campaign.
During his three years at Furman, Atkins converted on 33 of his 41 field goals and 132 of his 138 extra point attempts. Last season saw him convert all six of his attempts from under 40 yards, while going 7-for-9 from beyond that distance–including a successful try from 55 yards.
UNC struggled in the kicking department in 2019, with starter Noah Ruggles dealing with inconsistency all season long. Head coach Mack Brown gave backup Jonathan Kim a chance in the team’s win over Duke, but made the switch back to Ruggles after Kim missed on his first field goal attempt.
