An already incredible list of postseason accolades for UNC star Erin Matson added another bullet point earlier this week, as she was announced as the winner of the National Field Hockey Coaches Association’s National Player of the Year award.

Matson was also recently named the winner of the Honda Sport Award as the nation’s top player, as well as being named a First Team All-American and the ACC Offensive Player of the Year. Other honors include being named an Academic All-ACC performer and the MVP of both the ACC and NCAA Tournaments.

This marks her second consecutive year being recognized as the NFHCA National Player of the Year.

The junior from Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania led UNC to its third consecutive NCAA championship this season, scoring the overtime game-winner in the title game against Michigan.

Matson led the Tar Heels in scoring with 29 goals and nine assists over their 20 games and helped guide the team to a 19-1 record.

Over her three years in Chapel Hill, she has firmly established herself as one of the top athletes in Tar Heel history regardless of sport. With Matson on the roster, head coach Karen Shelton and company have gone 65-1 overall in addition to three ACC and NCAA championships.

She is one of just eight players in ACC history with more than 200 career points, having compiled 207 (82 goals, 43 assists) through her first three years.
