Powered by four home runs from four different players, the UNC baseball team cruised to a 9-2 victory on Wednesday afternoon at Boshamer Stadium over VMI.

Dallas Tessar hit a solo shot in the bottom of the second inning to open the scoring, while Dylan Harris added a solo blast in the fifth that tied the game at 2-2 after VMI had taken the lead with a pair of runs in the third frame.

The Tar Heels (12-7) then exploded for seven runs in the seventh inning to break the game wide open, as Aaron Sabato hit a solo shot to put UNC back in the lead then Patrick Alvarez hit a three-run blast to add the insurance runs.

Harris and Danny Serretti followed up with RBI singles to finish the big inning.

The UNC pitching staff was also dominant, holding VMI to just three hits for the entire game.

“I thought the top of the order for us was outstanding and we got good relief appearances from all of our guys out of the bullpen,” head coach Mike Fox said afterwards. “It was a one of those midweek games where you have to grind it out, and I am glad that we were able to do that.”
