The ACC announced its Football Players of the Week on Monday, with a pair of Tar Heels among those chosen to represent their respective position groups following UNC’s 40-37 loss to Syracuse in double overtime this past Saturday.

Sophomore receiver Dazz Newsome was named the league’s Specialist of the Week, while Ohio State transfer Antonio Williams was recognized as the league’s running back of the week.

It’s the first time either player has earned the honor.

Newsome caught a career-high seven passes for 90 yards against Syracuse, but it was his 75-yard punt return touchdown in the third quarter that really made noise. It had been nearly two and a half seasons since UNC’s last punt return touchdown, which came at the hands of Ryan Switzer–now with the Pittsburgh Steelers–back in 2015.

Williams, meanwhile, ran the ball 15 times for a career-high 116 yards and a touchdown–including a season-long run of 56 yards. In addition, he also caught a career-high six passes for 38 yards.

The duo will now look to replicate their feats this weekend, as the Tar Heels try to get back in the win column when they head to Charlottesville to take on the Virginia Cavaliers in an ACC Coastal Division showdown.
