After previously announcing his intentions to transfer from the UNC program back in late March, graduate forward Walker Miller revealed Thursday that he will play out his final year of eligibility next season at Monmouth University.
The 6-foot-11 forward — who is the younger brother of current Cincinnati head coach and former UNC player Wes Miller — joined the Tar Heels as a recruited walk-on under head coach Roy Williams.
He played sparingly in 62 games over his four years in Chapel Hill, ending his career with totals of just 32 points, 30 rebounds and five blocks.
Last season, he averaged 2.6 minutes per game in the seven contests he played in. This includes a Senior Night start against Duke where he gave the Tar Heels momentum early in the game by drawing a charge.
Miller was one of five Tar Heel big men to leave the program this offseason, joining Day’Ron Sharpe, Garrison Brooks, Walker Kessler and Sterling Manley.
UNC is planning on Armando Bacot returning to school to carry the frontcourt load next season, alongside incoming transfers Justin McKoy and Brady Manek.
At Monmouth, Miller will have the chance to showcase his skills at the mid-major level for head coach King Rice — a member of the Carolina Family who played point guard for the Tar Heels from 1987-1991 alongside new UNC head coach Hubert Davis.
