A pair of career-highs from freshman forward Janelle Bailey–who posted 25 points and 13 rebounds–spear-headed a dominant effort inside the paint for the UNC women’s basketball team in a 90-70 win at Carmichael Arena over Hartford.

The Tar Heels (5-2) outrebounded the Hawks (3-4) by a incredible margin of 57-24–which they took advantage of to build a 23-4 edge in second-chance scoring.

With the team shooting just 20 percent from behind the three-point line on Friday, much of the UNC offense had to be manufactured inside the arc.

In addition to Bailey’s outstanding performance, the Tar Heels received 19 points from senior guard Jamie Cherry and a 14-point, seven-assist game from Paris Kea.

Despite a game-high 26 points from Sierra DaCosta, Hartford wasn’t quite able to rally back from the 27-14 deficit it faced after the first quarter.

UNC saw its lead slip to just six points midway through the fourth quarter, but finished the game on a 19-5 run–a spurt that included back-to-back clutch baskets in the paint from Bailey.

Up Next:

The Tar Heels will look to pick up their fourth straight win, as they host Appalachian State on Sunday. That game is set to tip-off at 5:30 p.m.
