Despite having all five starters score in double figures on Sunday in Tuscaloosa, the UNC women’s basketball suffered its first loss of the 2019-20 regular season–falling 83-77 to the Alabama Crimson Tide.

Guard Medinah Muhammad led the Tar Heels (8-1) with 20 points in the game, while senior Taylor Koenen was just behind her with 16 points of her own. Freshman forward Malu Tshitenge added 13 points, with UNC also receiving 10 points apiece from Shayla Bennett and Janelle Bailey.

Alabama (7-3) shot 50 percent from the floor for the game, which proved to be the difference as UNC converted on only 37 percent of its chances.

The Crimson Tide were led by an outstanding performance from sophomore guard Brittany Davis, who scored a game-high 26 points on 11-for-13 shooting–including a 3-for-5 mark from behind the three-point line.

UNC led the game 64-62 heading into the fourth quarter, but Alabama stormed back in the fourth quarter to take the victory. Davis hit a three-pointer with just over six minutes remaining to give Alabama a three-point lead it would ultimately hold on to the rest of the way.
