A pair of Tar Heels were selected Wednesday to Collegiate Baseball’s Freshman All-American Team, as the dynamic duo of Aaron Sabato and Danny Serretti continue to rack up postseason recognition for their incredible achievements in their debut campaigns.
Sabato–the ACC Freshman of the Year and Collegiate Baseball’s Co-National Freshman of the Year–has set a new single-season school record for home runs by a rookie with 16, while also leading the team in in batting average (.341), hits (74), doubles (23), tied for first in home runs (16), RBIs (58), total bases (147) and slugging percentage (.677).
Serretti, meanwhile, is second on the team in in batting average (.295) and doubles (18) and became the first Tar Heel freshman to record at least five hits in a game on two separate occasions. He also became the Tar Heels’ starting shortstop during the second half of the year after beginning the season at second base.
The duo is a huge reason why UNC is still alive in the NCAA Tournament, where it will host Auburn this weekend in a Super Regional series.
