Carolina softball had its offense and pitching working well on Wednesday, as the Tar Heels closed out their 2022 slate of home games with a win.

The Tar Heels blanked North Carolina Central 8-0, winning after five innings due to the run rule. The victory pushed UNC back above .500 on the season (23-22) while dropping the Eagles to 9-29.

The bats got going early for Carolina, who plated six runs in the first inning. The Tar Heels loaded the bases twice, with sophomore Kianna Jones ripping an RBI double to start the scoring. Eight other Heels also recorded hits against the Eagles, who only managed one hit on the evening.

UNC freshman right-hander Carlie Myrtle was stellar on the mound, striking out six NCCU batters and earning her third win of the season.

The Tar Heels will close out the regular season with two weekend series, the first of which is against No. 24 Notre Dame. The first game in South Bend, Indiana, is set for a first pitch at 5 p.m. on Friday. Games 2 and 3 are set for 1 p.m. on Saturday and 12 p.m. on Sunday.
