The UNC men’s golf team finished three-under par to win the John Hayt Collegiate Invitational at Sawgrass Country Club in Florida on Monday. Maxwell Ford shot three-under in the final round to help Carolina secure the win, its fifth in eight events this season and 20th overall under head coach Andrew DiBitetto.

The Tar Heels were the only team in the 14-team field to finish under par. Alabama, despite leading Carolina by seven shots after the first round, finished four strokes behind at one-over. Virginia (four-over), Ohio State (12-over) and Duke (18-over) rounded out the top five.

Dylan Menante and Austin Greaser were UNC’s highest individual finishers, each tying for sixth place at even par. Maxwell Ford shot a 69 on the final day to finish tied for 20th. Ford’s final round included six birdies, and he tied Greaser’s second round for the lowest by a Tar Heel all tournament.

The win is UNC’s first ever at the John Hayt Invitational after finishing in second place in both 2018 and 2019. The Tar Heels’ next scheduled tournament is the Valspar Collegiate Invitational on March 25 and 26 in Palm City, FL.
