The UNC men’s basketball program released the non-conference portion of its schedule for the highly-anticipated 2022-23 season Friday morning.
The season will unofficially begin October 28 with an exhibition against Johnson C. Smith. The official first game will be 10 days later on November 7, when UNC-Wilmington visits the Smith Center. Three more home games against College of Charleston, Gardner-Webb and James Madison follow before the Tar Heels head to Portland, OR, for the Phil Knight Invitational. Carolina’s first opponent in the three-game event hasn’t yet been announced, but the field includes Michigan State, UConn and Villanova, among others.
Carolina will then travel to Indiana for the ACC-Big Ten Challenge on November 30 before returning home to face The Citadel on December 13, following the exam break. The Tar Heels will then embark on another road trip to the annual CBS Sports Classic. UNC will play either Kentucky, UCLA or Ohio State at a location to be officially determined later, though previous reports indicate the Tar Heels will face the Buckeyes at Madison Square Garden.
Carolina will travel to the Jumpman Invitational in Charlotte four days later. While the school hasn’t officially announced an opponent in that event, previous reports indicate they will play Michigan.
The conference portion of Carolina’s schedule will be released closer to the beginning of the season.
