Just days after entering his name into the NBA Draft process to receive professional feedback, UNC sophomore guard Kerwin Walton has also entered the transfer portal.

Walton, who is originally from Hopkins, MN, started just one game for Carolina this past season after starting 20 games his freshman year. His three-point shooting, for which he became known during that freshman season, took a significant dip in 2022, dropping from 42 percent to just 35 percent. He scored 10 or more points just three times in 39 games, and played only 29 total minutes in Carolina’s final 13 contests.

With Walton likely leaving the program, the Tar Heels now find themselves one scholarship under the limit of 13 allowed by the NCAA. After Hubert Davis struck gold in the portal last season with Brady Manek, all signs point to UNC searching for another forward with outside shooting prowess.

More than 1,600 players have entered into the transfer portal this offseason. Walton is the third Carolina player to enter the transfer portal since the conclusion of the season, joining Dawson Garcia (who has already committed to Minnesota) and Anthony Harris.
