In a college basketball offseason with unprecedented levels of player movement, UNC was hardly immune. Months after the departures of Walker Kessler and Sterling Manley among others, sources indicate one more Tar Heel has entered his name into the transfer portal: guard Andrew Platek.

Platek graduated from Carolina in May, but had been guaranteed an extra year due to the NCAA’s COVID regulations regarding student-athlete eligibility. However, it appears Platek will be utilizing that year elsewhere.

During his four years playing for Carolina, Platek appeared in 127 games, including 11 starts. In UNC’s injury-plagued 2019-20 season, he averaged a career-best 18 minutes per game.

Known as a shooter and defender, Platek averaged a career-high 37% from behind the three-point arc as a freshman. A highlight of his time in Chapel Hill came when he knocked down a game-winning shot against Miami in January 2021.

Platek leaves behind a crowded room of wings for the 2021-22 season, which includes veterans Caleb Love, RJ Davis, Kerwin Walton and Leaky Black along with incoming freshmen Dontrez Styles and D’Marco Dunn.
