Former UNC fan-favorite Luke Maye–whose game-winning shot over Kentucky in the 2017 Elite Eight was the defining moment of the Tar Heels’ 2017 NCAA championship run–recently signed a contract to play professionally in Italy for Aquila Basket Trento.
The team is located in Trento, Trentino, Italy, which is in the mountainous northern region of the country. Aquila Basket Trento finished in sixth place in the top Italian league last season.

Maye was undrafted by the NBA after posting back-to-back All-ACC campaigns for UNC as a junior and senior. He ultimately found a home with the Wisconsin Herd, the NBA G-League affiliate for the Milwaukee Bucks.
With the Herd this past season, Maye averaged 10.7 points and 7.3 rebounds per game. His most recent outing with the team saw him post 25 points and nine rebounds in early March against the Capital City Go-Go–a team that has former Tar Heel David Noel as an assistant coach.
