Prior to their big-time free agent signing of All-Star forward Gordon Hayward on Tuesday, the Boston Celtics were forced to make a few moves in order to clear up the necessary salary cap space.

As a result, Celtics General Manager Danny Ainge decided Sunday to waive former UNC standout Tyler Zeller–who was set to make $8 million this upcoming season.

That money would have been guaranteed to Zeller had the team let him stay on the roster for another day.

The 7-foot center played just 10 minutes per game with Boston last season, while posting averages of 3.5 points and 2.4 rebounds per night.

Zeller has spent the last three seasons of his five-year NBA career in Boston, but will now have to find another suitor as the Celtics look to build a championship caliber roster.

Due to his size and relatively young age, the 27-year-old should get plenty of calls in the coming weeks as NBA free agency rolls on.
