The UNC women’s soccer team controlled its match with Duke from start to finish Thursday night, using two second-half goals to pull away with a 3-0 win against the Blue Devils.

The win avenged a 1-0 defeat to Duke at Dorrance Field last season.

Carolina completely dictated play for the entire 90 minutes, outshooting Duke 15-2 and allowing just one corner kick. Emmie Allen, who this time started the entire match in goal over Marz Josephson, had to make just one save all night.

On the other end, it was an offensive onslaught for the Tar Heels, who were looking to bounce back after taking their first loss of the season last Sunday. Senior defender Tori Hansen scored her second goal of the season in the 35th minute to give Carolina the lead, thumping in a powerful header off an Emily Moxley corner kick.

The 1-0 score held until late in the second half, when a pair of goals from Emily Murphy and Isabel Cox in the span of less than nine minutes put the match on ice. In a testament to the team’s remarkable depth, each goal was scored and assisted by a different pair of players. 19 Tar Heels checked in for head coach Anson Dorrance, and four played the full 90 minutes.

The win moves No. 2 UNC to 6-1 on the season, and the team will return home to Chapel Hill on Sunday to host UCF.
