The UNC women’s soccer team was well-represented on the ACC’s annual all-conference teams. Six Tar Heels received All-ACC honors on Tuesday, including three on the first team.
Senior defender Tori Hansen, junior midfielder Sam Meza and redshirt freshman striker Ally Sentnor each were named to the first team, junior forward Avery Patterson was named to the second team and freshman defender Tessa Dellarose to the third team. Dellarose and forward Maddie Dahlien each were also named to the all-freshman team.
For Meza, it is the third consecutive season she has made an All-ACC team, but the first time she has been named a first team honoree. Hansen and Patterson, as well as all of the freshmen, are each making their All-ACC debuts.
Meza played in 14 matches this season while fighting through injuries. Her four assists are tied for second on the team, and she also has a pair of goals.
Hansen has been a rock on head coach Anson Dorrance’s back line, playing a full 90 minutes in 14 of 18 matches and leading the team with more than 1,500 total minutes played. She ranks second on the team with seven goals this season, including four from the penalty spot. Hansen was the only player in the conference to be named Defensive Player of the Week multiple times.
Sentnor made her collegiate debut this season after missing all of her true freshman season with an ACL injury. She made an immediate impact upon her return, tying for third on the team with five goals and ranking second with 20 shots on goal. Her fifth and final goal of the regular season was the game-winner at No. 4 Florida State, which helped Carolina clinch the top seed in this week’s ACC Tournament.
Patterson leads the Tar Heels and is tied for sixth in the conference in both goals (nine) and points (21). She is tied with Sentnor with three game-winning goals this season.
Dellarose and Dahlien have each played in all 18 matches this season, a remarkable achievement for two freshmen. Dellarose started all 18, and like Hansen has logged more than 1,000 minutes on the pitch. Dahlien started each of Carolina’s final five matches of the regular season, all wins, and scored her first collegiate goal in a win against Pittsburgh.
