Tobin Heath, one of the most decorated players in the history of the U.S. women’s national soccer team and a Carolina alumna, is taking her talents overseas… again.

According to a report from SkySports, Heath is signing with London-based soccer club Arsenal. It will be her third time playing professionally with a European club, as Heath played for French team Paris Saint-Germain from 2013 to 2014 and English side Manchester United from 2020 to 2021. Heath had originally been selected in the 2020 National Women’s Soccer League expansion draft, but will now join the Arsenal Women.

Heath is one of the most decorated players in the history of the USWNT, having won two FIFA World Cups and two Olympic gold medals. U.S. Soccer has described her as “one of the USA’s most skillful players.” While at UNC, Heath won three NCAA championships under head coach Anson Dorrance in 2006, 2008 and 2009.

Heath’s appearances for the USWNT in both friendlies and the Tokyo Olympics had been her first professional action since an injury forced her to miss much of Manchester United’s 2020-21 season.

Arsenal, Heath’s new team, are three-time champions of the FA Women’s Super League, the top competition for English professional women’s soccer teams in Europe. The 2021-22 season of the FA WSL begins Friday, September 3.
