The UNC men’s golf team is already gearing up for another shot at a national championship, and this time they will be joined by someone who’s lifted the trophy. The program announced Friday that Pepperdine’s Dylan Menante, who won the 2021 NCAA title with the Waves, would be transferring to Carolina for next season.

“I chose UNC because the school and coaches offer a critical balance between golf, growing as a person, academics and top-notch peers to surround my game,” Menante said in a release from Carolina Athletics. “I am looking forward to joining the Tar Heel program, but I also appreciate the support the Pepperdine community gave me the last three years.”

Menante became one of the most decorated players in the country in three years with the Waves. He won back-to-back West Coast Conference Player of the Year awards in 2021 and 2022, led Pepperdine in stroke average (71.20) last season and won two tournaments. He is ranked No. 15 in the World Amateur Golf Rankings.

The Tar Heels certainly know Menante well, as he was part of the Pepperdine team which eliminated Carolina from this year’s NCAA Championship in Arizona. Menante prevailed in extra holes over Ryan Burnett in match play in the national quarterfinals.

“All of us with Carolina Golf are thrilled Dylan chose to be a Tar Heel and is joining our family,” said UNC head coach Andrew DiBitetto. “He’s a winner, an All-American, a national champion and most importantly, an incredible young man. He’s one of the best amateurs in the world and immediately makes an already strong team even better.”
