Despite a mid-week loss at unranked Georgia Tech, the UNC men’s basketball held firm at No. 3 in the most recent AP Poll, which was released on Monday. The women’s team, meanwhile, fell from its No. 24 spot into the “Others Receiving Votes” category after two consecutive losses to No. 5 NC State and No. 17 Virginia Tech.
The Tar Heels are one of just two ACC men’s teams featured in the latest poll. Duke fell two spots from No. 7 to No. 9 following its loss in Chapel Hill on Saturday. Virginia, which sits at second place in the ACC standings at 8-3 (two games behind Carolina) also received votes but was not ranked. For a full look at the poll, click here.
The entire Top 3 of the poll remained unchanged, with UConn and Purdue holding steady at Nos. 1 and 2. No. 4 Kansas and No. 5 Houston round out the Top 5.
On the women’s side, five ACC teams are ranked: No. 3 NC State, No. 12 Notre Dame, No. 15 Louisville, No. 16 Virginia Tech and No. 23 Syracuse. Carolina received the second-most votes of all unranked teams. Florida State and Duke also received votes. For a full look at the poll, click here.
The men’s team will be back in action on Tuesday night when it hosts Clemson at 7 p.m. The women’s team will next play on Sunday when it visits the Blue Devils at 2 p.m.
