Following an impressive week, the UNC men’s basketball team rose eight spots to No. 9 in the latest AP Poll, which was released on Monday afternoon. The Tar Heels defeated then-No. 10 Tennessee and Florida State in the Smith Center to move to 7-1 on the season.

Carolina is the highest-ranked ACC team in the poll. No. 15 Miami, No. 22 Duke and No. 24 Clemson are also featured. Along with that group, plenty of other future UNC opponents are ranked in the latest poll. The Tar Heels’ next foe, UConn, slots in at No. 5. The defending national champion Huskies dropped one spot following their first loss to Kansas on Friday. Kentucky, who Carolina faces on December 16, features at No. 16, and Oklahoma, who Carolina faces on December 20, is ranked No. 19. For a full look at the poll, click here.

No. 9 is UNC’s highest ranking in the poll since its short stint as No. 1 at the beginning of last season. The Tar Heels quickly tumbled completely out of the poll before a brief reappearance at the beginning of ACC play at No. 25.

Carolina will be back in action on Tuesday night in New York when it faces UConn at the Jimmy V Classic. Tip-off is scheduled for 9 p.m.
