Courtney Banghart is getting some extra ammo next season.

UNC women’s basketball commit Lanie Grant, a point guard who ESPN rates as a five-star recruit and the No. 22 overall player in the Class of 2025, has reclassified up a year and will instead join the Tar Heels at the beginning of the 2024-25 season. Grant announced her decision on social media on Sunday night.

Grant was named the Gatorade Virginia High School Player of the Year this spring (her hometown is Midlothian, VA, which also produced UNC men’s basketball standout Kenny Williams) and has played on the USA Basketball U16 National Team. She will join four-star shooting guard Jordan Zubich and five-star center Blanca Thomas in Carolina’s 2024 recruiting class. The Tar Heels are also one of three finalists for Sarah Strong, the No. 1 overall player in the class.

As of Sunday night, fellow UNC point guards Reniya Kelly and Kayla McPherson are still on the roster and have not entered the transfer portal. Deja Kelly, who spent much of the season at point guard after injuries ended Reniya Kelly and McPherson’s seasons, can return for a fifth and final season or go pro. She has not announced a decision.
