5 p.m. Monday UPDATE: Monday afternoon saw a portion of the power outages restored across Orange County. Duke Energy reported its current outages at just under 1,000 Monday evening. The number of Piedmont Electric customers without power, meanwhile, was below 100.

4:45 p.m. Sunday UPDATE: More than 5,300 Duke Energy and Piedmont Electric customers in Orange County are without power. Crews have been deployed across central North Carolina in an attempt to restore those outages.

2:30 p.m. Sunday UPDATE: Between Duke Energy and Piedmont Electric, that are more than 4,600 customers without power in Orange County. Duke Energy makes up the bulk of those at more than 4,3000 customers in the county.

1:30 p.m. Sunday UPDATE: Outages increased to more than 3,600 Sunday afternoon. Duke Energy is reporting that crews are out assessing damage and attempting to repair outages.

Orange County is under a Winter Storm Warning through Monday evening. Winter Storm Diego dropped several inches of snow across central North Carolina early Sunday morning.
That storm led to 1,459 Duke Energy customers in Orange County losing power as of 11:30 a.m. Sunday. Piedmont Electric was reporting a small number of outages in the county.
Neighboring Chatham and Durham counties saw a higher number of outages early Sunday.
The storm has led to a significant amount of closings and delays, including school schedules for Monday, December 10.
Duke Energy is reporting that it is waiting for the storm’s full impact before responding to the outages in Orange County. The utilities brought in crews from across the country in anticipation of a high number of outages due to the storm.
