****UPDATE: The Town of Chapel Hill shared a message later Friday morning saying power has been fully restored to the area.****

The Town of Chapel Hill warned motorists and residents of a power outage downtown early Friday morning that is affecting traffic.

The town shared a message on its Twitter page saying the outage affected two traffic signals at busy intersections: Hillsborough Street and East Franklin Street, as well as Hillsborough Street and East Rosemary Street.

As of 6:37 a.m., Chapel Hill said Duke Energy crews were on-scene in the 500 block of East Rosemary working to repair the outage. The town said the road would be closed to traffic while crews are there.

Duke Energy’s outage map listed more than 202 customers being affected by the outage in early morning hours. As of 9:20 a.m., the energy service company lists the traffic light outage as the only one left in downtown Chapel Hill.

This is the latest unexpected road closure in Chapel Hill after a tree fell and blocked North Estes Drive on Thursday morning. Crews removed the debris and had the road open again to motorists by the afternoon.
