UPDATE: The North Carolina State Highway Patrol reopened the lanes of Interstate 40-85 on Tuesday afternoon.
Drivers on Interstate 40 and Interstate 85 in Orange County on Tuesday likely experienced delays due to a crash that killed at least one person.
A release from the North Carolina State Highway Patrol on Tuesday morning said troopers responded to the report of a crash shortly before 9 a.m. A crash in the northbound lanes of the two interstates near Buckhorn Road in Orange County stopped traffic.
The state troopers found two passenger vehicles and a commercial motor vehicle involved in the crash, with one confirmed fatality.
As of late Tuesday morning, the state highway patrol were still on the scene with two northbound lanes of I-40/85 closed near the Buckhorn Road Exit. According to the release, troopers will keep it closed during the extent of the crash investigation.
With the lanes remaining closed, drivers are encouraged to find alternate routes and detours to avoid any significant traffic.
