Several downed trees in the same stretch of a popular Chapel Hill trail are causing some hikers or walkers to slow down.
Not far from the Community Center Park, multiple trees recently fell on Battle Branch Trail — specifically, the lower trail with a bridge.

The impact and weight of the trees significantly damaged the footbridge, according to eye witness reports and photos. There are some cones and caution tape around the stretch of the lower trail, but the upper trail remains unharmed and open to travelers.
The 1.5-mile-long Battle Branch Trail is used by community members to connect the Community Center Park and the Bolin Creek Trail to Battle Park and the UNC campus.
A spokesperson for the Town of Chapel Hill told Chapelboro local government staff are aware of the fallen trees and are working on a timeline to clear the debris.
