The Orange County Sheriff’s Office is requesting information from the public regarding the negligent use of a firearm and offering a reward to those who share accurate details.

The sheriff’s office posted on its Facebook Wednesday requesting the Orange County community to shed light on an incident from Monday, when someone fired approximately 30 rounds from a .223 caliber rifle in the area of Miller Road, Governor Drive, and Orange High School Road in Hillsborough. The office said the incident happened around 1 a.m. and while no one was injured, the bullets damaged a residence.

According to the post, a nearby security camera captured an image of the suspect’s vehicle, which appears to be a white or light colored four-door sedan.

The sheriff’s office is offering $500 to anyone who shares information leading to the arrest of the person or people responsible. Investigator Vila is the lead investigator on the case and he can be contacted at 919-245-2907 or wvila@orangecountync.gov.
