NC 54 Reopens in Chapel Hill as Crews Respond to Gas Leak

****UPDATE: NC 54 was reopened at Hamilton Road around 3:10 p.m. Wednesday as crews remain on the scene to fix the gas line that was struck.****

Chapel Hill Fire crews are on the scene of a gas leak that forced the closure of NC 54 in both directions at Hamilton Road.

Emergency officials are asking residents and motorists to avoid the area.

Dominion Energy was on the scene as of 2:45 p.m. Thursday. Fire officials said that the gas was shut off at 2:55 p.m.
