Chapel Hill Fire crews are on the scene of a gas leak that forced the closure of NC 54 in both directions at Hamilton Road.
Emergency officials are asking residents and motorists to avoid the area.
Dominion Energy was on the scene as of 2:45 p.m. Thursday. Fire officials said that the gas was shut off at 2:55 p.m.
