Chapel Hill – Carrboro City Schools are closing early Monday due to complications from a water main break in Carrboro. The break also caused UNC – Chapel Hill to move to Condition 2 at 11:30 a.m. Monday. Classes are canceled and all non-mandatory operations are suspended through 11 p.m. Monday.

Orange Water and Sewer Authority has issued a boil water advisory and is asking customers to limit water uses to essential purposes due to the break at the utility’s facility on Jones Ferry Road.

CHCCS officials sent a message to parents on Monday morning saying that elementary schools will be closing at 11:30 a.m. Monday, middle schools at noon and high schools at 1 p.m.

All after-school programs and activities have been canceled.

Chapel Hill Public Library is closed “until further notice,” due to the water main break.

Chapel Hill town services were also closed effective 11:30 a.m. Monday.

UNC Hospitals is temporarily suspending elective surgeries due to the water shortage. UNC Health Care is also not accepting transfer patients and trauma patients are currently being directed to other hospitals in the area, according to a release. Bottled water is being brought in for patients and staff and portable handwashing stations are being set up.
