Chapel Hill – Carrboro City Schools superintendent Dr. Pam Baldwin and her leadership team are set to deliver at State of the Schools address Wednesday night.
The address comes as the school district is wading through various issues. The school board chair Margaret Samuels abruptly resigned last month as some parents were circulating a petition to generate a recall election targeting Samuels and two other board members. That effort has since been suspended.
Parents have questioned the board’s actions leading up to a vote last fall to transition Glenwood Elementary School to a dual-language Mandarin magnet program. Community members also expressed concerns about proposed changes to the Blue Ribbon Mentor Advocate program.
The district is also working through traditional issues around this time of the year, including finalizing its budget request to the Orange County Commissioners. The school board also voted last week to make May 1 an optional teacher workday as education advocates across the state have organized another teacher rally in Raleigh to lobby state lawmakers for more public school funding and other education initiatives.
Wednesday’s event is hosted by the CHCCS PTA Council and will be held at Culbreth Middle School at 7 p.m. and the address will be live streamed.
