Educator and Chapel Hill resident Allison Willis is entering the race for the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools Board of Education. Willis is a former public school teacher and principal and current administrator whose children attend CHCCS.
“I care deeply about our public schools,” Willis told Chapelboro. “And I understand the role they play in fostering happy, healthy academically-prepared kids who are ready to take on the challenges ahead.”
Willis expressed admiration for how the CHCCS administration handled staffing shortages during the most recent school year, particularly the bus driver shortage. She said she wants “to celebrate the process that allowed for many voices to be heard and created space for our-of-the-box thinking that I think is transferrable to any challenge facing our district in the future.”
Among Willis’ stated goals are innovating the educational model, retention of faculty and staff, and expanding resources to all students in the system.
Four seats on the Board of Education are up for grabs in this election cycle. Willis is one of 19 candidates who have filed to run in the race.
Early voting for the fall local government elections begins on Thursday, October 19, while Election Day is Tuesday, November 7.
