The Town of Hillsborough will host an open house for feedback on a proposed concept for the South Churton Street Multimodal Corridor on December 12. The session is scheduled to run from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Town Hall Annex on 105 East Corbin Street.

The state is planning to widen South Churton Street between the Interstate 40 interchange and the Eno River in order to relieve traffic congestion and provide north-south pedestrian and bicycle connectivity. The North Carolina Department of Transportation initially began developing ideas for the project in 2019, and earlier this year the town hosted input sessions for potential designs.

“Over the last six months, the project team has collected and incorporated broad input from stakeholders and community members,” read a release from the town government. “The open house provides an opportunity for the community to review and comment on the plans before they are finalized.”

Whenever plans are finalized, the designs will be shared with the NCDOT. Construction is planned to start in the fiscal year 2031. For more information on the project, click here.
