CARRBORO –The Orange County Water and Sewage Authority is holding a blood drive in conjunction with the American Red Cross on August 15.
Donors must be at least 110 pounds, in good health, 17 or older, and have photo identification. Sixteen-year-old donors are allowed as long as they have parental permission.
OWASA and the Red Cross are especially looking for donors with O-negative, A-negative, or B-negative blood.
Thursday’s blood drive takes place in the community room of OWASA’s administrative building at 400 Jones Ferry Road from 11:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

The N.C. Folklore Society is holding a festival to commemorate its 100th anniversary September 28. The Statewide Folklife Festival will include folk music, dance, film, food, and art events at venues throughout Carrboro.
The folk music aspect will have four acts performing music at the Carrboro Town Commons from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. on September 28.
Leading up to the festival, the N.C. Folklore Society will host the 2013 Statewide Traditional Arts Summit and Folklife Celebration in Carrboro from September 26 to 28.

The fourth annual Hillsborough Jazz Festival is September 21 on the lawns at the Moorefields estate from noon to 6:00 p.m.
Sponsored by the Hillsborough Arts Council, the event will have live jazz performances by artists like Yolanda Rabun, Serena Wiley, the Stacy Looman Jazz Trio, and Capital Transit.
Advance tickets are $15 from the Hillsborough Arts Council at $20 on the day of the event. Children ten and younger get free admission and parking is free.
