The Town of Hillsborough told residents Friday West King Street will close briefly on Tuesday, December 31.
In a release from the town, residents learned through traffic would not have access to the stretch between Wake Street and the entrance to the town-maintained parking lot behind Churton Street businesses on New Year’s Eve. The street will be closed for 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Hillsborough said the closure is due to a contractor renovating 126 West King Street and installing rooftop mechanical equipment.
“The roof could not be accessed from behind due to lack of clearance beneath utility lines,” the release said. “The sidewalk in front of the building, which is on the north side of the street, also will be closed.”
Pedestrian access to businesses and residences on the street will be maintained during the closing, and residents will be able to enter and exit with their vehicles from the intersection of West King and Wake streets. The town-maintained parking lot behind Churton Street businesses will remain accessible from West King Street.
The full message from Hillsborough can be found on the town website.
