The Chapel Hill Police Department shared a message with the community Monday following an incident over the weekend in the Meadowmont neighborhood.

A Facebook post from the department praised the actions of a Meadowmont resident following a scary situation the resident experienced on Saturday. Police sent a dispatch to the area following a 911 call in the evening, but according to the post, they were unable to conclude the scenario prompting the call was an attempted abduction.

“We are very proud of the swift action [the Meadowmont resident] took to seek assistance from a nearby resident,” said the department’s post. “It’s important that if you don’t feel comfortable with a situation that you get yourself out of that situation as quickly [and] safely possible, and if you need further assistance, call 911 as quickly as you are able to do so.”

Chapel Hill resident McClain Selden Percy shared a post on her personal Facebook late Sunday night detailing what she described as an attempted abduction in Meadowmont involving her daughter.

The department said in its post it does not believe there is an active threat to the community in relation to the incident.
