The Chapel Hill Police Department is seeking a driver as part of an investigation into a car crash into a house in the Northside neighborhood overnight.

A spokesperson for the department told Chapelboro police received a report of a motor vehicle crash at 300 McMasters Street, with police record showing the call came in around 3 a.m. and the incident took place shortly after 2:30 a.m. on Tuesday.

According to Chapel Hill Police, the driver of a Kia Optima — who drove through the living room of the house — fled the scene and is being sought by investigators. Multiple people were inside the car and a gun was later found at the scene. Police said no one inside the home was hurt and the vehicle was reported as stolen.

CBS 17 first reported the crash on Tuesday, while WRAL later reported that a pair of UNC students were inside the house when the crash happened.

The house at 300 McMasters Street, which real estate sites list as being build in the 1930s, sits at a T-intersection with Church Street in the Northside neighborhood — which is on the back side of Northside Elementary School. A spokesperson for Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools said despite the proximity, the school reported no interruptions in its operations or instruction on Tuesday.
