The Town of Chapel Hill is extending a gift to residents and visitors as the holiday season is approaching, free parking.
Parking in downtown Chapel Hill is frequently the source of complaints from perceptions over lack of availability and issues with the parking meters. But the town has implemented a program in recent years to allow free parking on Saturdays in December.
The program got an early start this year over the Thanksgiving holiday. And beginning December 1, parking at all town-owned lots, decks and on-street meters will be free on Saturdays throughout the month of December.
The free parking offer will be in place December 24 – 26 and January 1.
Parking is free on Sundays throughout the year.
